"ACGME and all that - Thoughts on learning, teaching and mentoring in a new era"

Speaker:

Assoc Prof Quah Thuan Chong
Head and Senior Consultant
Division of Paediatric
Haematology and Oncology
Khoo Teck Puat - National University Children's Medical Insititute

Synopsis
"There’ve been dizzying changes in medical education (both undergrad and postgrad) over the past 5-10 years!

Why? Part of it is inevitable – things have changed (society, patient profile, medical advances etc)! and so must we!

Part of it is globalization (maybe more “Americanization” / “hegemony” than globalization – ACGME, JCI etc), maybe us trying to catch up?

The old folks may have problems trying to catch up (can old dogs learn new tricks?)

The young ones may just assume that this is just the ways things are

The danger is that the old folks may be stuck in the ruts, while the young ones are just happy coasting along. "
